New Collaboration Promotes Personalized Media Technology, Non-Dues Revenue for Associations
(Denver, CO - January 7, 2015) RevvCrew and Aggregage, a leading technology organization that deploys business vertical-specific websites and newsletters, announced a collaborative relationship to increase awareness among professional and trade associations seeking innovative resources to deliver value to their members, while also driving new non-dues revenue. The partnership aims to expand adoption of the growing Aggregage network - a technology-based platform that collects and curates content from the widest set of relevant sources in each industry to simplify staying up-to-date for each industry’s practitioners.
Like many business-to-business and business-to-consumer publishers, associations continue to struggle with how best to monetize electronic and digital media assets in order to help make up for the ongoing decline in print advertising revenue. A recent report from PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), Entertainment and Media Outlook 2015 – 2019, reports that trade magazines will continue to shrink, experiencing an overall compounded annual growth rate of -5.3% from 2014-2019. This is in stark contrast to the 12% CAGR digital advertising is expected to experience during the same period. According to the American Society of Association Executives, membership associations generate between 60-65% of their income from non-dues sources such as conference registrations, advertising and sponsorships.
“We partnered with Aggregage because we believe they’re building the next-generation of business media,” says RevvCrew’s Crew Chief and Co-Founder Garth Jordan, noting that their platform uniquely presents the highest-rated and most-shared content on social media to users. Adds Jordan, “This platform automatically creates personalized newsletters for each and every individual reader – that’s pretty powerful.”
Associations and other businesses seeking to reinforce their brand and value with existing members – while also gaining exposure among prospective members – can partner with Aggregage at no cost to their organization. Non-dues revenue is generated from site sponsors and/or advertisers - primarily lead generation - which can be sold by either the association staff or by sales professionals from Aggregage.
According to Aggregage Co-Founder and CEO Robert Flynn, "Member organizations are always talking about targeting and personalization but aren't always sure about the best way to achieve this functionality. Our easy-to-use platform makes this benefit possible, while increasing the delivery of highly relevant information to members. We believe that RevvCrew, as a trusted resource, is a great way to get this message to associations."
To date, some three dozen business vertical sites have been launched by Aggregage, including sites on e-learning, human resources, marketing and fundraising for nonprofits, as well as Association Universe - a dedicated community news site that brings together approximately 100 content sources specifically aimed at association executives.

The presentation, entitled Generating Revenue: Now, New and Next, will use a three-prong, interactive approach to share the insights of an original research project: Non-Dues Revenue Horizons: Insights on Association and Nonprofit Growth, 2016, with attendees. This new project, being administered by leading association research firm, Association Insights of Atlanta, GA, is capturing the strategies and tactics of non-profit and association leaders who are innovating in order to increase the diversity, consistency and value of non-dues revenue programs at their organizations.
The session's three elements include:
1.Research Update – an overview of the current research-in-progress, to include feedback, insights and a look into innovative non-dues revenue ideas that are being enabled, as well as some tired programs that are being eliminated and phased out.
2. Spark Session – this facilitated, interactive element will include audience sharing out of their innovations, new programs being developed (or being considered) to generate value and income. The participants will be able to seek feedback from colleagues, have others challenge or help improve the concepts being shared.
3. Post-Conference Conversation – as the research project continues to evolve, all conference attendees will be invited to a follow on webinar session in Q2 2016 that will share additional data collected from the research project. All MSFRN program registrants will get a copy of the final report.
